Know Exactly Where Trust Stands in Your Teams, Organizations and Your Trustworthiness, as a Leader.Trust will be built and trust will be broken, in all relationships- not because we are bad, but because we are human.
The good news is you can actually measure and know where Trust stands and make it tangible and concrete. Trust is often seen as being intangible, abstract and emotionally provocative, yet with the Reina Trust Building approach and Trust Measuring Assessments, you can identify your strengths, pinpoint your vulnerabilities and capitalize on your opportunities.
The first step in minimizing Trust Breaking Behaviors is to realize that it is natural and we are building and breaking trust all the time. The key is to understand what these behaviors are, to be cognizant about them, and then take steps to manage it or lessen them.
We can learn to take action by discovering the very behaviors that are undermining our leadership effectiveness that affect our business and our workplace. As Dr. Dennis and Dr. Michelle Reina, pioneers in researching trust indicate – “Trust is the bridge for the business need for results and the human need for connection.” Great leaders know and work hard to build and maintain their trustworthiness.
Why? Because savvy leaders know that they are only as effective as they are viewed as trustworthy.
The currency of leadership is trust. Organizations, institutions and leaders everywhere are facing incredible Trust deficits. It is important for leaders to understand the language of Trust that helps people embrace change, deepen engagement, foster teamwork & collaboration, strengthen leadership effectiveness and transform workplace cultures.
In our own country, there is a huge Trust deficit. Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has made the call for Government Servants to adopt the ‘Bersih, Cekap, Amanah’ (Clean, Efficient, Trustworthy) motto when rendering their services to the people. More importantly, trust is a virtue worthy of consistent practice. Albert Einstein once said: “Whoever is careless with the truth in small ways, cannot be trusted with important matters.”
The new government will have this new slogan as the rallying cry for the nation. The slogan will set the ‘true north’ for the conduct of the nation and its citizens. This reflects the government’s noble purpose of a path of building trustworthiness, when executing their duties as leaders.
The REINA Trust Building® findings are based on over two and a half decades of focused research and has uncovered what is true about trust building and trust breaking in their proprietary REINA Trust & Betrayal Model®. Their Dimensions of Trust: The Three Cs® (Trust of Character®, Trust of Communication®, and Trust of Capability®) reveal the 16 specific behaviors that when practiced, builds trust and when practiced inconsistently or not at all, breaks trust.
With the availability of the REINA Trust Assessments which is research-based, statistically valid and reliable: i.e. the Reina Leadership Trust Scale® (LTS), Team Trust Scale® (TTS) and Organizational Trust Scale® (OTS) leaders can now measure and know where Trust stands.
Lastly, it is important that we, as leaders, take the first step now to do more with trust. Find out where Trust stands and work on issues in real-time. Know what behaviors build and break trust. The change we desire starts with Building – Rebuilding – and Sustaining Trust.
